Parts of this list are adapted from "Top 50 Things To Do To Stop Global Warming" at www.globalwarming-facts.info

  1. Reduce your Commute
Did you know that you can save $60 a year for every mile that you eliminate from your daily commute?  Gramercy Place is about five minutes commute from some of the best places to work in the city.
  2. Shared Walls and Entryways
In a freestanding house as much as 30% of your heating bill is spent on heat loss through walls.  Because most homes at Gramercy Place share two walls with neighbors, this heat loss is cut in half.  Several Gramercy Place homes also have shared entryways that prevent cool air from escaping in the summer and prevent drafts in the winter.
  3. Get a Free Programmable Thermostat from KCPL
"Programmable thermostats will automatically lower the heat or air conditioning at night and raise them again in the morning.  They can save you $100 a year on your energy bill."  Click here to find out how to get one free.
  4. Get a Free HVAC System Checkup and Six Free Compact Fluorescent Lightbulbs from KCPL
The KCP&L Cool Homes Program is a residential central air-conditioning rebate program that helps KCP&L customers maintain the operating efficiency of central A/C systems and offset the cost of upgrading to new high-efficiency systems. KCP&L customers can save energy and reduce cooling costs while staying comfortable all summer long. Click here for details.
  5. Recycle and Compost
The recycling drop-off center is at 11921 Hardy (between Metcalf and Antioch).  For other recycling options visit RecycleSpot.org.
  6. Buy from Local Farmers Marketsmarket07.jpg
Buying from local farmers markets can reduce the energy required to grow and transport your food by one fifth.  The Downtown Overland Park Farmers Market features fresh produce, herbs, and live music.  Starts Saturday at 6:30am and Wednesday at 7:30am at the Clock Tower Plaza, just 2 blocks West of Metcalf between 79th and 80th Streets.
